Psychotherapeutic Counselling Contract & Agreement

Welcome
This document outlines how we will work together and what you can expect from psychotherapeutic counselling. It is designed to create clarity, safety, and a shared understanding of our work. We will also discuss this agreement together during our sessions so that any questions can be explored.

Professional Role
I work as a counsellor providing psychotherapeutic counselling within a Transactional Analysis framework. I am in advanced psychotherapy training and work under regular professional supervision in line with ethical practice. My aim is to offer a collaborative, respectful, and confidential therapeutic space.

Session Structure
Individual sessions are typically 50 minutes and usually take place weekly. Couples sessions are 90 minutes and may take place weekly or fortnightly, depending on what is agreed together. The rhythm of sessions can be reviewed at any time as the work develops.

Consistency and Commitment
There is no fixed number of sessions required for psychotherapeutic counselling, and we can remain flexible about the length of our work together. At the same time, consistency is an important part of the therapeutic process. I ask that sessions are treated as a committed space and that the work is approached with mutual respect for time, energy, and presence.

Fees and Payment
The current fee per session will be confirmed with you directly. Payment details and timing will be agreed before counselling begins. If fees change in the future, reasonable notice will be provided.

Cancellations and Missed Sessions
Your session time is reserved specifically for you. A minimum of 48 hours’ notice is required for cancellations or rescheduling. Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice, or missed sessions, will be charged at the full rate. This applies except in exceptional circumstances, which can be discussed together. Consistent late cancellations may lead to a review of the ongoing work.

Confidentiality
Everything shared in psychotherapeutic counselling is treated as confidential. There are some legal and ethical limits to confidentiality. These include situations where there is serious risk of harm to yourself or others, safeguarding concerns, or legal requirements. Wherever possible, I will aim to discuss any necessary disclosure with you first.

Communication Between Sessions
Communication outside sessions is for practical arrangements only, such as scheduling. Therapeutic conversations take place within the counselling space rather than through email or messaging.

Supervision and Professional Standards
As part of ethical practice, I discuss my work in professional supervision. Your identity will be protected, and identifying details are minimised.

Record Keeping and Data Protection
I keep brief confidential notes to support the counselling process. Information is stored securely in line with UK data protection legislation. You have the right to request access to your personal data and to ask questions about how it is stored.

Ending Psychotherapeutic Counselling
Counselling can be ended by either of us. Where possible, we will aim to review and bring the work to a thoughtful close together. If I believe another form of support would be more appropriate, I will discuss this with you and offer guidance where possible.

Complaints or Concerns
If you have any concerns about our work, I encourage you to raise them with me so we can address them openly. Information about my professional body and complaints procedures will be provided separately.
